In the Kingdom of God, a person’s alignment will determine his or her assignment.
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
With what or with whom are we primarily or ultimately aligned? Republican, Democrat, Independent? Conservative, Progressive? Free Market or Controlled Economy? Utilitarian, Pragmatist? Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic, Pentecostal? Theism, Atheism? ACC, SEC, Big Ten?
Perhaps it’s all about our children or grandchildren. Their school work, piano lessons, athletic prowess, church youth group. Have we been trying to live our lives out vicariously through those in our family coming up behind us?
Are we more concerned with our “career” than our “vocation”? The root word for vocation is “voca”, which means a “call”. Years ago our high schools would schedule “Vocation Days” on the academic calendar. The gymnasium would be filled with representatives of the marketplace community. There would be doctors, lawyers, business owners, craftsmen, teachers, police officers, fire fighters, etc. When did we first begin calling that experience “career days”? When was the last time we considered the possibility that God has actually “called” us to our life’s work?
You get the drift!
Where your assignment in Life is concerned, with Whom or with What are you ultimately aligned? Would it be the kingdoms of this world or the Kingdom of God?
Who is your Lord? The world, the flesh or the devil? Or, is your life surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ?
Your assignment in life will always be preceded by your alignment in life! Jesus Christ once said “Beware of false prophets…. By their fruit you will know them”. The kind of fruit you bear is determined by the root of the tree from which you draw life’s resources. Your assignment will be determined by and defined by your alignment!
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
