Memorial Day and the 4th of July celebrations are behind us and we look forward to the next big national celebration. “Halloween”!!!
What a contrast!
Fifty six men acknowledged that our nation was established on the right to be free from the tyranny of man. They declared that God Himself had established “Truths” which were
“self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
We proudly acknowledge and commemorate those brave men who signed the Declaration of Independence, thereby endorsing the closing words of that document.
“… we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”
Over the course of the next almost 240 years, millions of men and women have indeed sacrificed their lives in defense of our liberty.
Our founders and our defenders were clothed in the uniform of courage, integrity and truth.
And now, we Americans will prepare to play our games clothed in silly costumes that signify little else but our present day commitment to carnality, complacency and comfort. Halloween!
Which best identifies us as a nation today? The uniform of honor or the costume of corruption? Here’s a hint: There are more people wearing costumes today than uniforms.
